Continuing our tile trends countdown to Coverings 2024, let’s delve into a trend we teased last week, which we’re calling Geo Texture.
From sleek lines to captivating geometries, tile designs with linear textures and patterns are a useful tool for interior designers. Not only do they allow for creative expression, linear textures direct your eye, making an expanse seem longer or taller, while geometric patterning adds visual texture, giving your eye something to pause on. Whether achieved through glaze, gloss, relief, or inlays, they can infuse spaces with character and visual intrigue.

Striping
These sea-green ceramic tiles are equally soothing and eye-catching. Pristine horizontal striping is enough to carry the eye across the room while remaining uncomplicated. Glossy tiled walls make the most of natural light, reflecting it back across the dining room.

Bisection
Bisect a tile from corner-to-corner and suddenly you’re able to create all sorts of interesting patterns. This mixed parquet layout injects a lot of energy and motion into a monochromatic backsplash. The half-matte, half-gloss tiles are sure to play well with light sources in the room.
Here’s another example of bisected rectangles. These are paired with solid tiles. Basic tile designs like these can be mixed and maneuvered into endless patterns, to be as simple or as intricate as you like. Many tile makers even provide pattern generator tools to help you visualize and explore creative layout options.
Large-Scale Mosaics
These mesh-mounted geometric mosaics are a striking wall look. One in every four tiles includes a black metallic accent, which is just enough to create interest and movement in an otherwise simple installation. Meanwhile, arched windows in the mix make a magnificent statement.

Pressed Patterns
Handmade tiles with pressed patterns add personality to this bathroom. The earthy palette and geometric patterns bring an undeniably cool, retro vibe.

Block-Print
Block-printed patterns are a perfect mix of organic and geometric. The imperfect hand-carved looks of the patterns give it a personal touch while the pattern repeats are perfectly precise. This look has an artisanal quality that embraces you from the moment you enter the room.
Inlays
These stone-on-stone tiles with an inlaid cross pattern would be perfectly at home in a countryside retreat or a minimalist city home. The soft grays make you feel as if you’re in a quiet sanctuary emanating peace and well-being, while the geometric inlay adds structure and sophistication.

Three-Dimensional
Terra-cotta-inspired hexagons boast the beautiful palette of nature’s soft earth tones while the fluted indentations texturize your room and add an organic feel.

Fluted
Individually, the concave shape of this 4″x12” tile looks slight, but working in concert, they make this fluted wall the room’s main attraction. Large-scale linear textures are an overarching trend in interiors. (Think of all the floor-to-ceiling slats you’ve seen lately.) Ribbon tiles or pencil tiles can also be used to achieve a similar effect.

Geo Mosaics
Small-scale mosaics add dimension with geometric patterns, such as this one that fans out like hexagonal layers. Take your floor from drab to dramatic with a carefully chosen pattern.
Elevate Your Space With Geometric Texture
Geo Textures enliven any space they’re in, whether you live in the country or city, in a studio apartment or large, lavish home.
