Project Description
This Ritz-Carlton hotel in New York captures the essence of Manhattan luxury with its bold design and bespoke detailing. The hotel’s interiors combine timeless elegance with modern artistry, featuring handcrafted finishes and mosaic tilework that celebrate both craftsmanship and creativity.
The design team set out to create a distinctive and immersive environment reflecting the vibrant energy of New York City while maintaining the understated luxury characteristic of the Ritz-Carlton brand. A focal point of the design was the incorporation of custom floral mosaic tile patterns throughout the property—particularly in the lobby and staircases—adding a layer of texture and artistry that connects spaces visually and emotionally.
The challenge was to achieve this level of detail using small-format ceramic mosaics while ensuring precision in installation. Each tile placement required careful planning and alignment to maintain the integrity of the complex floral motifs across curved and vertical surfaces.
Why Tile®?
To execute the custom mosaics, the design team divided the floral artwork into numbered sections corresponding to each mosaic sheet. Once the layout was finalized and approved, the tiles were mounted onto mesh sheets bearing identical numbering to the plans. This facilitated a seamless on-site installation and ensured that the intricate pattern unfolded accurately across the floors and staircases.
The finished installation at the Ritz-Carlton NoMad delivers an atmosphere of elegance and artistry. The vibrant, multicolored mosaics transform transitional areas such as staircases and the main hall into focal design features, achieving both aesthetic distinction and lasting performance, creating a space with the enduring appeal of ceramic surfaces in luxury design.
