Smalti mosaic tiles create a sparkling river on this outdoor porcelain paver patio.
Perdomo Mexican smalti (small-batch colored glass) mosaic tile was used to create an incredible river mural design winding through this outdoor living space. The design runs from a bay window on the private home to the edge of the patio overlooking Puget Sound, with a view of the Olympic Mountain Range and the Tacoma Narrows Bridge. The client asked for a pattern that would be slightly chaotic with lots of intertwining ribbons of blues. The installation was completed in two days and the effect of the mosaic tiles is a striking river design that appears to flow over the edge of the patio to the incredible views beyond. The mosaic tiles shimmer and sparkle as the light hits the design, making it particularly lovely during sunset or at night by the lit fire-table pit.
The mosaic tiles are surrounded by pebble stone, which separates the mural from the porcelain paver patio tiles. In addition to the beautiful craftmanship, the mosaic tiles used for the project are also a sustainable choice as they contain 10-50% recycled glass content.
