With Coverings just weeks away, we’re celebrating by taking a closer look at each of the top 2021 tile trends we predicted at the beginning of the year.
First up is an adaptation of a long-time favorite: hexagon tile.
Hexagon tile is well-known in smaller sizes, including tiny hexes used in mosaics. This year, hexagon tiles are getting BIG — and we don’t just mean in popularity.
Large hex tile is springing up everywhere from bathrooms and kitchens to commercial spaces, in a wide range of designs. Let’s take a look.
Monochromatic Large Hexagon Tile

Can’t choose just one color? Don’t!
Multicolor tile is a great way to make a fun tile design even more playful. While you may opt to arrange different colors in a pattern, the two examples above arrange the colors randomly for a more organic look.

Patterned Large Hexagon Tile
@ragnotile_usa couldn’t have put it better: “The popular hexagon shape plus eclectic patterns make for a backsplash that takes center stage.”
When browsing patterns, don’t limit yourself: A wide range of geometric designs, floral styles, and Art Deco motifs are available.

As the bathroom above showcases, marble-look tile and hexagons are a gorgeous pairing. While small hexagon tiles wouldn’t provide much space to show off the veining patterns, that’s not a problem with these larger hex tiles.

Large Hexagon Tile With Other Shapes
Triangle, diamond, and trapezoid shapes are just asking to be combined into hexagons. While that appears to be the case with this flooring, these hexagon tiles actually have the different shapes printed onto them in different colors, making the flooring even more fun.

Irregular Large Hexagon Tile
Another way to use hexagon tile is to choose a modified hexagon shape. This cafe wall features irregular hexagon tiles in three colors, and the elongated shape of the tiles creates a sense of upward movement that draws attention to the high ceilings.
