Our celebration of National Tile Day continues with a weekly highlight of one of 2019’s most anticipated tile trends. We’re getting even more excited as Coverings ‘19 — the event of the year for the North American ceramic tile and natural stone industry — draws nearer.
If you’ve been celebrating with us since our first tile trend, you’ve already revelled in wood-look tile, geometric tiles and pattern play, dark marble-look tile, and gauged porcelain tile panels/slabs. (Now’s the time to catch up on any blogs you’ve missed!)
This week’s tile trend coincides with the spring equinox, and for good reason: It’s florals and leaves! This look has been budding all over Instagram, and we’re sharing our favorite examples.
Hand-Painted Floral Tile
When you think of floral tile, you probably imagine something pretty close to this hand-painted tile that transports you to a different time and country.
This design is as beautiful as ever and would look stunning as a kitchen or bathroom backsplash. Choose bolder colors for a more striking look, or delicate shades for something softer, such as the tile on the right.
Flora and Fauna Tile Slab
Don’t doubt it — this botanical flower look really is ceramic tile.
While you might assume this wall surface is wallpaper, it’s not. Gauged porcelain tile panels/slabs (which happened to be last week’s tile trend) allow manufacturers to create — and decorate — extra large tiles.
And that’s a good thing, too, because while water splashes from the sink could damage wallpaper, they do no harm to water-resistant ceramic tile.
Whimsical Floral and Leaf Tile Wall
If you enjoy sketching while daydreaming, these tile walls will look very familiar to you.
Such a whimsical design is suggestive of absentmindedly drawing with a light hand, and because the material is a tile slab, there’s no need to worry about “coloring within the (grout) lines.” The result is a playful look that lends an air of relaxation to this beautiful master bathroom.
Contemporary Lotus Flower Tile
For a clean, modern look, consider this lotus flower tile design.
There’s something visually satisfying about the repetitive, continuous pattern, so effectively done that you can hardly tell it’s multiple tiles. We certainly wouldn’t mind gazing at this soothing wall while soaking in the tub.
3D Floral Tile
Ceramic tile is taking surfaces to another level — literally — with three-dimensional patterned tiles.
This tile combines the antique look of hand carving with a modern graphic floral design. Imagine this unique tile in a farmhouse kitchen or an outdoor patio.
Living (Tile) Wall Glass Mosaic
Vertical gardens and living walls are trending right now and are giving garden enthusiasts the opportunity to turn their plants into works of art.
Our last feature incorporates this innovative trend to create an absolutely enchanting glass mosaic “living” tile wall. The use of varying shapes and colors makes every single leaf stand out.
What’s best about this tile living wall? You don’t need to water it (but if you do, it won’t hurt the ceramic tile) and it’s long-lasting — much like the popularity of florals and leaves in decor trends throughout history.
