Another week, and another 2020 tile trend to celebrate National Tile Day!
Last week highlighted nonrectangular tiles, and this week we’re looking at shapes again — but with a twist. Homeowners, designers, and architects can play with creativity in 2020 by sprinkling same-shaped tiles of another color into a layout.
The possibilities are nearly endless when getting creative with mixed geometric tile, but here are just a few options we love.
(Everything but a White) Picket Fence Tile
Picket fence tile is a modern twist on traditional hexagon tile, elongating and thinning the six-sided shape so that it can be laid either vertically or horizontally. Although the namesake of this tile type is traditionally white, this installation opts for varying shades of sea blue.

Modern Subway Tile
Can’t decide between classic white subway tile and a more contemporary adaptation? Follow the example of this tiled wall and choose both! Tiles in blush and copper tones are separated by rustic multicolored tiles in a staggered pattern.
(Not Your Basic) Square Tile
Never judge a tile installation by its tile shape alone. This tile feature wall in candy-colored hues proves that with the right design choices, square tiles are anything but basic.
Ombre Tile
“H”-shaped tiles that combine in a tetris-like manner already ensure the originality of this bathroom backsplash design. The ombre-like combination of the blue, gray, tan, and white colors is an added touch that tips the balance from unique to absolutely stunning.
Dream in Color
