Case Study:
Mercedes-Benz Stadium

Mercedes-Benz Stadium goes LEED Platinum with the most sustainable sports venue in the world.

#

Project Description

Mercedes-Benz Stadium broke records and earned countless awards before the Atlanta Falcons even took the field. The newest stadium in the NFL is also the most sustainable and the first to achieve LEED Platinum status in the U.S.

Mercedes-Benz stadium was designed to give fans an unforgettable and unique experience. With its modern technology, clubs and suites, dining options, and simultaneous events, the stadium immerses fans in the occasion. This stadium has transformed the Atlanta skyline in iconic style with its one-of-a-kind retractable roof. Sightlines are paramount during football games, soccer matches, and concerts, and this is made possible by the transparent shell of the building. Sky bridges within the stadium provide views of downtown and visitors can also see inside before entering, adding to the sense of anticipation.
Sustainability was integral to the planning and design process for the project. With a LEED score of 88 points, Mercedes Benz Stadium has the most LEED credits earned for a professional sports stadium. The project achieved this distinction through rigorous engineering and the specification of qualifying materials.

Why Tile®?

Why Tile.com black logo

Key to the stadium’s luxurious aesthetics, over 200,000 square feet of porcelain tile was installed in the stadium. The completed design represents 25 different international and domestic tile manufacturers. This project showcases the synergy of tile and installation systems in a high traffic environment by integrating different types of tile designs from multiple manufacturers. From 3-D and textured tile to natural stone and gauged porcelain tile panel/slabs, the tile was installed to meet the demanding service conditions of a multi-purpose sports and entertainment venue, while also contributing to the arena’s overall sustainability goal.
