With just a few weeks left until Coverings ‘21, we’re eager to explore yet another 2021 tile trend we expect to see there: XXL tile.
We already live in an environment of super-sized portions, so let’s define exactly what XXL tile means.
Also called gauged porcelain tile panels/slabs, XXL tile consists of tiles measuring up to 15 feet wide — essentially, bigger tile than you’ve ever seen before.
XXL tile is useful in creating a number of styles, from wallpapered looks to custom designs, with natural looks being a popular choice for gauged porcelain tile.
XXL tile designs are making an impact in a wide range of applications, from countertops and custom furniture to feature walls and backsplashes. Here are some impressive examples from Instagram below.
White Marble-Look XXL Tile
Of all the natural tile looks, for XXL tile and otherwise, the white marble look is probably the most popular. We’ve seen white marble-look tile in just about every room of the home, and now we’re excited to see it getting bigger than ever before (in popularity and size).
As the two images above demonstrate, the design and color of the veining can completely change the look. Which look do you prefer — the gray veining or the golden veining?

Dark Marble-Look XXL Tile
A moodier alternative to white marble-look tile, dark marble looks are another great option for XXL tile.
Dark marble-look tile makes a space feel immediately intimate and effortlessly stylish. And just as with white marble-look tile, the veining design plays a big role in the final look.

Colorful Marble-Look XXL Tile
Who said XXL marble looks have to be in grayscale?
Colorful marble-look XXL tile is also trending, with options to choose between a colorful background tone or colorful veining — or both. We particularly love the veining on the XXL tile above, which ranges from orange to purple to green.

Stone-Look XXL Tile
XXL tile lends itself to any natural stone look, including the sandy-looking porcelain tile above. The monotone color of the tiles, along with the minimal grout lines created by XXL tile, help to create a minimalistic look in this master bath.

Wood-Look XXL Tile
We tend to see wood-look tile in narrow panels, but who’s to say it can’t be bigger? These XXL wood-look tiles contribute to the bathroom’s general treehouse vibe — and the gorgeous view doesn’t hurt, either.

Glossy XXL Tile
If luxury is what you’re going for, we suggest a glossy look for your XXL tile. The glossy marble-look XXL tile above sets the tone for the entire lobby, and we can’t help but think that it will be equally impressive in an entryway or living room.

XXL Kitchen Island Tile
So far, we’ve looked at different designs that pair well with XXL tile, but it’s worth noting that XXL tile can be used for a lot more than flooring and walls.
For example, you can cover your entire kitchen island with gauged porcelain tile panels/slabs, creating a seamless surface that matches your other kitchen tile applications or stands out with a unique design.

XXL Bathroom Counter Tile
XXL tile is a perfect choice for bathroom countertops as well — or, as in this example, for just about every bathroom surface.

XXL Furniture Tile
XXL tile is also our new favorite option for furniture of all kinds. You can cover — or create — just about anything with gauged porcelain tile panels/slabs, including tables, benches, booths, shelves, and desks, such as the one in this lobby.
